Tailored RCF Sound and Industrial Atmosphere at Moto59 Foodgarage Herten

Herten, Germany - In the Ruhr region, the former Ewald colliery has taken on a new life. Where miners once worked underground, the Nord machine hall of Shaft 7 now hosts the Moto59 Foodgarage. This venue combines industrial architecture, detailed interior design, and a professional RCF sound system designed for maximum flexibility.

The Foodgarage spans several floors, each with a distinct character. From the original hoisting machine to restored motorcycles and oil barrels turned into tables, the venue presents a carefully crafted environment that attracts visitors not only for its gastronomy but also for its unique visual setting. This diversity of spaces required a sound solution that could adapt to different acoustic needs without interfering with the historic atmosphere.

For the main areas, RCF Compact M 10 loudspeakers provide full-range coverage, supported by S 15 subwoofers for low-frequency extension. Smaller zones are covered by Compact M 06, Compact M 08, and Compact M 05 models, ensuring balanced performance where space and discretion are essential. On the rooftop terrace and gallery areas, WMR 50T wall-mounted loudspeakers deliver consistent sound while blending into the architecture.

The system, comprising 62 RCF loudspeakers in total, was installed by Music & Lights, under the direction of Eero Sossinka, and designed so that each floor can be controlled independently. This allows different scenarios to coexist—for example, relaxed dining with subtle background sound on the ground floor, while a company event or after-work party takes place upstairs.

Carsten Kubacki, managing director of Moto59, explains: “It was clear from the start that we needed maximum flexibility because the hall extends over several floors. Without a proper sound system, it simply wouldn’t work, but it was essential for us that it didn't detract from the charm of the old machinery and our elaborate decorations. The RCF loudspeakers and subwoofers fit perfectly into the overall concept. The first DJ sets were a complete success—easy to handle and compelling in terms of sound.”

The Moto59 Foodgarage is an example of how historic industrial sites can be repurposed into contemporary venues. RCF’s sound solutions demonstrate how a vast product catalog can deliver top-level audio performance while maintaining a neutral design that coexists seamlessly with both architectural heritage and modern environments.
